James ‘The Scots Bonnet’ Nixon

Today’s blog will focus on James ‘The Scots Bonnet’ Nixon from Beith in Scotland. Prior to taking an in-depth look at James’ chilli credentials, let us remember why these brave chilli heads are gonna suffer for our entertainment on April 4th. They are hoping to raise money for the Australian wildlife that suffered from those atrocious fires in Australia earlier this year.

The most incredible thing we would like to point out about The Scots Bonnet is just how quickly he has burst into the chilli community. His first major significant chilli challenge happened just a few months back on the 24th October 2019 when he consumed 13 Carolina Reapers in one sitting!

We have noticed that James has the ‘Atomik Menace’ style of competitive chilli eating; when he appears on our screens chomping and chewing away at various chilli challenges he shows very little pain or emotional response. You could say he is another chilli ‘Terminator’! Since that day in October he has been an incredible presence in the chilli community and an inspirational figure with his fearsome style, background bagpipes and trademark quirks including the loveable way he addresses his friends as ‘wee dafties’! This chilli monster is captain material for the increasingly popular Facebook group NEUK Chilli Heads, he is a real chilli gem unearthed by the NEUK founder Lucianno Ferson. James has become a big time chilli hero in a very small amount of time!

A quick peek into his previous chilli crime sheet would shock most people, it is too long to mention all of his challenges to date! The standout achievements are the FIVE Chug Challenges in one sitting, TWO Tubes of Terror in one sitting and his entertaining victory in the world’s first ever on-line fresh pod chilli eating contest hosted by The Stinger Stephen Dixon.

So what is the beef from Beith’s tender spot? When we pay close attention to his Tube of Terror challenge we can see no weakness. After his second tube he was dancing and smiling, proclaiming the heat was resting at around 7 out of 10! Apart from the fact he put his chilli dusted finger in his eye, he looked pretty comfortable. In the Triple Threat Chug challenge the belief is engendered that perhaps he will not have the stomach for the endurance aspect, as he had to retire after FIVE bottles, whereas Roger Trier and Dustin Johnson both managed to hang in there for the entire 10 Chugs. But 5 bottles is still an amazing endeavour!

We managed to get a direct quote from the Bonnet about the temporal constraint of the forthcoming Spoonfuls of Terror challenge which could be a 2 hour plus challenge! James stated that “the most difficult part will be at around 4-6 tubes when they start to hit the stomach, the endurance factor is there but this doesn’t worry me as I enjoy all the crazy effects (you wee dafties)”!

LOF Prediction for the Spoonfuls of Terror Challenge: 5 Tubes

Put simply, we think if he can do 5 Chug Challenges he can do 5 Tubes Of Terror. We believe the peanuts as a vehicle for the extreme heat suits James better than the 100ml chugs of hot sauce, so the peanuts are a better format for him. Having said that, we are reluctant to predict that he will surpass 5 tubes because the Tubes will be a longer, more drawn out challenge than the Chugs, so that endurance factor is the only reason we think that 6th Tube may just be a nut too far!
