Today’s blog focuses on Bella ‘Heat 101’, also known as the ‘US Chili Queen’, hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Prior to taking an in-depth look at Bella’s chilli credentials, let us remember why these brave chilli heads are gonna suffer for our entertainment on April 4th. They are hoping to raise money for the Australian wildlife that suffered from those atrocious fires in Australia earlier this year.

Bella started to appear on her YouTube channel Heat 101 alongside her husband Brandon around 2 years ago. In that time the channel has grown and Bella has become a fearsome competitive chilli eater. Not only does she accept any challenge that pops up, she has also contributed to the growth of the chilli community with her and Brandon providing insightful hot sauce and fresh pod reviews. She is a true, genuine chilli lover!
In our previous blog, we explained how James Nixon adopts that ‘Atomik Menace’ style in a chilli challenge, almost like a terminator that doesn’t feel pain or show emotion. Bella tends to remind us more of the UK Chilli Queen, as she gravitates into a trance to conquer the capsaicin, almost as if she is in an altered state of awareness! This was evident in perhaps her most magnificent achievement to date, when she lost by a few seconds to the formidable Dustin Johnson in the race finale of Ed Currie’s Facemelter contest last summer. It was a show of strength and determination that is rarely seen and if she can bring that steel to the Spoonfuls of Terror challenge then we could have a 10 Tuber right here!
Bella has a very impressive list of challenge achievements. Along with that mind-boggling display at the Facemelter, the chilli contest win at Colombus Fiery Foods Festival has to be seen to be believed as Bella, after winning, continued to eat multiple Ghost peppers as if they were Hershey’s Kisses! She has also annihilated numerous other challenges that are recognised by the LOF, such as the Chili Cherry Nightmare, BITES, Chug Challenge, MOAB and the Tube of Terror. Quite frankly, her current world ranking is far too low and she is certain to be a LOF top 5 chilli head in the future.
So, having identified her strengths and achievements, what could possibly be Bella’s weakness? We believe that the only problem Bella could have is the lack of training for this event in terms of actual Tubes of Terror she has previously experienced. She has completed the challenge but with just the one Tube. When we scrutinise that video the pain is palpable for all to see. Bella clearly says about the Tube, whilst in the throes of severe discomfort, that “anyone who says that that is not up there, 9 or 10 (out of 10 for heat rating) you’re fooling yourself! That’s crazy, it’s HOT”! She continues to say that she is hallucinating and is clearly in a huge amount of pain! Could this particular challenge just not sit well with Bella?

LOF Prediction for the Spoonfuls of Terror Challenge: 6 Tubes
The thing is, we don’t actually think it is probable that anybody can eat 10 Tubes back-to-back! The current world record is 6 Tubes by Atomik Menace and even he looked to be in discomfort after that triumph! Bella has some kind of unbelievable ‘never give up’ attitude that only a few crazy souls have and because of that mental strength, along with the fact that we haven’t seen any signs of a gag-reflex, we think she can equal the current world record for Tube of Terror, which would be an extraordinary achievement! However, we do struggle to overlook the sheer amount of discomfort Bella exhibited when she did that one Tube of Terror challenge just over a year ago which is why we think she can complete those 6 Tubes but a 7th Tube may just be a nut too far!
